The majority of our lamb is from Scottish Black face ewes mated with a Texel, but a small amount is also pure Texel as we keep a small number for Breeding Tups.  By using a Texel to cross with the Scottish Blackface cross we feel that the lamb produced A Taste Of Gallowaytends to be slightly leaner, less fatty and has better conformation.  As with the cattle, the Blackface cross ewes are outside all year round.  We have a traditional spring lambing when the weather is beginning to improve and the grass is starting to grow.  We aim to feed mainly on grass and supplement feed when required.

Lamb is an excellent source of high quality protein and an ideal source of iron.  It provides 45% of the daily requirement of zinc which is essential for growth, healing and a healthy immune system.  Lamb is a great source of B vitamins and also contains trace elements such as copper, manganese and selenium.  Half of the fat in lamb is unsaturated, which is good for you.  Most of the unsaturated fat is monounsaturated, commonly found in a “Mediterranean-type diet’.
